Get to know our Emmy-Award-winning Vice President of Business Development & HR, Nancy Popkin!
Nancy grew up in Bucks County, PA and studied at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in English Writing with a concentration in Journalism. After working as a writer and field producer in Pittsburgh, she produced ABC Los Angeles' top-rated 4 p.m. newscast and then took over day-to-day operations of WRAL-TV's newsroom in Raleigh, NC. During her news tenure, Nancy won an Emmy Award for producing a 30-part series about kids and drug addiction.
After becoming a mom, Nancy spent more than a decade as a TV agent and later a nutrition counselor, a passion which was sparked by her time as a medical reporter. Putting her recruitment and job placement skills garnered at WRAL-TV to good use, she joined our ShapiroCM team in 2018.
A mom to two 20-something daughters and one dog named Lola, Nancy is just as happy to travel the world with her partner as she is to stay home and enjoy her artsy river community of New Hope, PA. Nancy is particularly proud to watch her daughters and her partner’s daughter achieve their life goals.
When not in the office, Nancy spends her days gardening, exercising, and cooking with the vegetables, eggs, meat and poultry she buys from her local CSA farm. Fun fact: most of Nancy’s food is sourced within two miles of her home! She also loves jazz, dramas and memoirs – but please don’t ask her to read any science fiction!
Nancy believes deeply in the work done at ShapiroCM, especially rehabbing public housing through contracts with the New York City Housing Authority. She notes that before the firm started managing projects for the NYCHA boilers replacement program in 2019, local news reports chastised the housing authority night after night for residents living without heat and hot water. Since then, the firm – working closely with tenant associations – managed boiler system upgrades for seven NYCHA developments. Nancy also notes that employing residents of public housing for every one of those projects is meaningful to her, as it facilitates professional skill development and experience for those employees, as well as the opportunity for our highly skilled project managers and residents to learn from one another.
While Nancy may not be winning any more Emmys working for the firm, her precision, dedication, and quest to foster a sense of community within our staff is award-winning in our book!
